This May 4th will bring the third installment of Lucasfilm’s Tales anthology series, and this time, we’re headed to the underworld. Following Tales of the Jedi, which focused on Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku, and Tales of the Empire, about Morgan Elsbeth and Barriss Offee, Tales of the Underworld gives us new stories about Cad Bane and Asajj Ventress.
Ventress, of course, was last seen at the end of The Bad Batch—an appearance which contradicted the unforgettably infuriating end of the novel Dark Disciple. It’s not exactly clear when the stories in Tales of the Underworld take place, though the Star Wars website references both “surviving in the shadow of the Empire” and a young Padawan dealing with life after Order 66. Each episode may be in a slightly different timeframe; perhaps one will explain her unlikely resurrection.
As for Cad Bane, he “faces his past when he confronts an old friend, now a marshal on the other side of the law.” Naturally, to go with his hat, he gets a Western-style face-off in a street littered with bodies—“a standoff that reminds us of his live-action appearance in The Book of Boba Fett,” as StarWars.com is quick to note.
Tales of the Underworld stars Nika Futterman as Ventress and Corey Burton as Bane; additional voices are provided by Artt Butler, Lane Factor, A.J. LoCascio, Clare Grant, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Eric Lopez. Dave Filoni is the series’ creator and supervising director, while Matt Michnovetz is the writer.
All six episodes arrive on Disney Plus on May 4th.
